1. Can you restore paintings, works on paper or textiles?

ArtWorks Conservation generally works only on 3 dimensional objects. If you would like something else conserved, please look at the AICCM directory of conservators in private practice. If you cant find anyone suitable, you are welcome to contact us for a referral.

2. I am an individual with an item of sentimental value, can you still work for me?

Certainly, we are most happy to assist private owners. Whether its granny’s vase or an object of national significance, you can be assured that your treasures are in safe hands.

3. What is the difference between conservation and a restoration?

Conservators are usually university trained with a background in science as well as practical skills. Conservators are guided by a code of ethics and will endeavour to understand and preserve the history of an object, rather than simply trying to return it to its original condition. Conservators aim to use materials that will be compatible with the existing materials, stable, and as reversible as possible

4. Do you do valuations?

At ArtWorks Conservation, we like to offer the same professional services regardless of value.

We suggest you have a look at the list of Government approved valuers or look in the Yellow Pages under Valuers – Fine Arts and Antiques.

5. Can you undertake significance assessments?

Vanessa Wiggin is currently undertaking further training at Deakin University and hopes to be able to offer this service in late 2013.

6. Are there any employment or internship opportunities available?

We do not currently have enough volume of work to offer regular employment or an internship. There may be opportunities to work with us from time to time on a short term contract or as a volunteer on large projects.

7. Do you work outside Perth?

The ArtWorks team love to travel and are happy to work throughout Western Australia, interstate or overseas.

8. How do you become a conservator?

Most conservators have undertaken a university degree in materials conservation. There are currently two conservation degrees offered in Australia:

9. Do you offer free quotations?

Yes, if you can bring the object to our studio, otherwise there may be a small charge to cover travel costs.

10. Can you quote from a photograph?

We prefer not to quote from photographs as it is difficult to provide an accurate assessment.

11. Where are you located?

Shoalwater, in Perth’s southern suburbs. Please contact us for an appointment and address details.
